Melanie Orellana serves as the academic instructor at MDSA and is honored to be part of the school community. She believes deeply in the potential of every learner and strives to create a classroom environment where students feel safe, encouraged, and inspired to grow. Her teaching philosophy focuses on building meaningful relationships, fostering curiosity, and supporting the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.

Melanie holds a Master’s degree in Teaching from the University of Houston–Clear Lake and is certified in Core Subjects, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Special Education. These certifications equip her to address the unique needs of diverse learners and to adapt instruction so that each student has the opportunity to succeed. She brings both academic training and hands-on experience to her work, aiming to make every lesson engaging, relevant, and inclusive.

Outside the classroom, Melanie enjoys spending time with friends and family—whether exploring new places, sharing meals, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She has a passion for discovering different cultures through food, whether that means trying new restaurants in Houston or traveling to new destinations. She also engages with interactive storytelling through video games, which she sees as a creative way to connect with others and spark new ideas. These hobbies enrich her personal life and help her stay connected to the diverse experiences and perspectives of her students.
